Why being called ‘difficult’ is a good thing

Don’t be afraid to be a bit of a pain in the ass
Better that momentary echo of guilt, the fear, the – should I have said that? Was that too much?
The one we’ve been conditioned to feel
Every time we dig our heels in, or advocate for our happiness. Our pleasure. Our freedom. Our preferences.
Better to be called difficult. High maintenance.
Instead of hoarding festering resentment
At having to swallow it all
Pain in the ass. Difficult. High maintenance. Fussy. Bossy. Nag. Controlling. Insert yours here.
Turn it upside down, these were never insults at all
Merely spicy compliments.
