Genevieve Methot | Massage Therapist & Surfskate Coach

From Canada

What is your role in the Salty Souls Experience?

I am officially the massage therapist & surfskate assistant coach. But I’m low-key the “jack-of-all-trades” as I help in various ways!

What’s your background and how did you acquire those skills?

A couple of years back I completed my 200 YTT in Ashtanga yoga (and another 200hrs in Hatha/Vinyasa more recently). I loved it, but I felt like I wanted to be able to do more to help people feel good in their bodies. So I completed a 1500 hrs massage therapy certification in Canada, and I keep taking classes to add skills and knowledge to my work. I have been working with Salty retreats since 2017.

Biggest challenge within the Salty Souls Experience?

Most women that come to me for therapy have neglected their body for years. They are unaware of the amount of stress lodged in their muscles, affecting their posture, sleeping habits, breathing patterns… and the list goes on. So I try to bring awareness to their bodies and explain the potential sources of the chronic pain and what to do to help fix it. Our body is our vessel through life, it needs to be valued, respected and treated properly!

Ninja super skill people don’t know you possess?

I can recognize a song when I hear the first 2 notes dropping. And I can also make cookies disappear… but that’s no secret 😉

Favorite place in the world?

On my board in the ocean, wherever it is. Sometimes I wonder where home is, where am I supposed to be… and that’s the only place where I belong for sure. And to name places, it would be Las Flores and Punta Mango in El Salvador. I love how quiet it is and how everything is untouched by humans.

What gets you the most excited in life?

Surfing, the human body and its complexity, food, music, the stars and the moon, dancing, vulnerable conversations, the unknown and novelty while traveling, sunsets and sunrises…

What is the craziest thing you’ve ever done?

Bought a 1990 truck in El Salvador, put a bed in the back and drove the whole Pacific coast all the way to Panama and back by myself.
