Drink more water. We all know we should, but most of us don’t. The algorithm depends on many variables for just how much water each of us needs such as exercise intensity, the climate of where we live in, diet etc. Very roughly speaking the average suggestion is 8 glasses of water a day = 2 liters. Here are a few tips to creating better habits for drinking more water.
How to hydrate:
1. Jazz it up.
Water can feel bland, especially with the trend of flavored carbonated water circulating. Keep it natural and simple, add a squeeze of lemon, a few raspberries, a couple of cucumber slices to flavor it up.
2. Invest in a good water bottle.
Maybe a glass bottle entices you to drink more water? Or having a glass next to your bottle? Whatever inspires you, go for it! That favorite 1 L bottle will help you keep track of how much you have been drinking too.
3. Small sips.
Some science suggests that drinking 250 ml (1 glass of water) at a time is ideal for the body to absorb, or if you can, continually sipping on water throughout the day.
4. Water it down.
Adding extra water to your smoothies and if you do reach for an alcoholic drink, adding more water to dilute it as you enjoy your cocktail, are both great opportunities to up your H20 count.
5. Water first thing in the morning.
Before the coffee, a nice big glass of water will help flush the system and have your water counter already at 1-2 before the day has even begun.
6. Water with your meals.
Reach for a glass of water with each meal to keep the hydration going throughout the day.
7. Hydration assistance.
If you really need to amp up your hydration add in an electrolyte powder or if you have the luxury, reach for a fresh coconut.
8. DIY Sports drink
1/2 teaspoon of himalayan salt + juice of one lemon + 2 cups of water or coconut water. Enjoy.
