Ale Romo | Booking Manager
From Mexico
What is your role in the Salty Souls Experience?
I’m in charge of all the customer experience at the Salty Souls. From bookings, doubts about your future travels, to traveling tips, and recommendations. I’m your “go to go” lady to solve anything is on your mind, in English, French, and Spanish.
What’s your background and how did you acquire those skills?
I am a huge passionate about traveling, meeting new people, and different cultures. I started to travel at 18, and I lived for a fair amount of time in France, Spain, Nicaragua, Bali, Mexico, Sri Lanka, etc.
Furthermore, I started to surf 15 years ago; I’m a total obsessed with the sport, and all the consciousness that has brought into my life ever since. I have changed my life dramatically, and I went from working the typical 9 to 5 in Barcelona; to be able at the present moment to work remotely, and manage my time according to my “surfing needs”. I find it really cool to be able to work every day with great women that understand these needs :))
I have a very diverse career background I’m very proud of; contrary to what society tell us to build. I love to be able to say that I possess many skills, and expertise in many areas that always came handy! My experience goes from working in publicity agencies in Barcelona, to manage international projects for an NGO in France; working with traveling companies, coaching hotel businesses in Asia; and even creating various ventures on my own; where I owned a guest house in San Sebastián, Spain, managed several vacations rentals, and other stuff travel & surf related.
Biggest challenge within the Salty Souls Experience?
I guess the more complex thing (and, the most fun), is that we’re a fully remote team in different time zones, different nationalities, and backgrounds.
When I think on all these things, and what are we achieving every day, I think we’re just making pure magic! It is incredible how we convey together 🙂
Ninja super skill people don’t know you possess?
I’ve been studying astrology many years; so at this moment, I can read people very easily at first glance. Haha!
Favorite place in the world?
I have so many!!! They’re all wave related though 🙂 I really love the Basque coast in France, Asturias in Spain, Bali, and Mexico of course!
What gets you the most excited in life?
Perfect, clean waves, petting dogs, croissants, fresh wax on your board, açaí bowls, astrology, cryptocurrency technology, and pizza. I looooove pizza.
What is the craziest thing you’ve ever done?
Many, I guess! I always followed my hunches! I traveled, did, and lived in many places, I felt I needed to do, and go. I was born with a hunger of freedom; but with the years, and tons of consciousness (and therapy), I’m understanding that, that need of freedom, it actually takes freedom away from me.
From these experiences, I had some interesting ones, I’ve got myself into!
- Being an “au pair” in San Francisco, I grabbed the car of my host family to go to the city. Didn’t have a license, went in a wrong direction street, and got pulled by the police. They let me go somehow. I was only 18.
- I also ended up living in Sri Lanka for a couple of years recently. When the pandemic hit, I was stuck there with no money, and no job ; so I ended up making peanut butter for some friends to pay rent, and eat. This was prove to me, that I can always get my way to survive, somehow.
